Why is Alexa ranking important?
Alexa ranking is an indicator of how well your website is doing. It is as important as a Google Pagerank. Alexa ranking along with Google PR are the two main factors that reflect a website’s success. These two ranking systems play a big role in the success or failure of monetizing a website.
How do we improve Alexa ranking?
The only way to improve Alexa ranking is by installing their toolbar. And you must also encourage your friends and other users to do so. Fortunately or unfortunately that is the only way. Why? Alexa’s toolbar measures the amount of traffic generated by counting the number of hits to its toolbar from a browser. This also means you can browse your own website daily and Alexa will still count the hits!
There is another way which doesn’t involve their toolbar. You can install Alexa widget on your website’s footer or somewhere and display your Alexa rank. This not only displays your Alexa rank to the users but it also counts the number of hits generated by users who do NOT have Alexa toolbar installed in their browsers. You need to try both methods if you are just starting!

  1. The reliability and credibility of the Alexa Rankings have often been subject to differences. There are opinions that the Alexa ranking is far more credible and true for the sites below 100000 than that for the ones above it. Another factor that proves to be a major drawback of the Alexa rankings is that the rankings are governed by the Alexa toolbar and the Alexa toolbar users community. All the browser types are not taken into account as far as the rankings are concerned. As for example the Alexa rankings does not work in Windows Vista even though the latter has a huge user base and is highly popular.
