| My Blog Directory - Free Traffic Exchange Site
|
| January 31, 2009 |
| I recently registered for another free trafffic exchange site called blog directory. Its a free traffic exchange site and more importantly its only for blogs. Registration is very simple and no email address is required. All you need to do is choose your blog's category, provide a brief decription of your blog and submit your blog URL. In return you will be asked to paste a small piece of code on your web page. That code is for a small icon which points to the site. The best feature of the site is that the blogs are shown randomly on its homepage and each time you refresh it a new blog will be shown. This way every blog gets equal exposure. There is also something called as Blog of the Day which is chosen based on the number of unique visitors sent by that blog on one day. And the Blog of the day receives the whole traffic! |

| Ways to improve Alexa Ranking
|
|
| First of all I would like to point out that Alexa can take upto 4 months(or even more like in my case) to update your site ranking. And the the only way to improve the Alexa ranking is by installing their toolbar. And you must also encourage your friends and other users to do so. Fortunately or unfortunately thats the only way. The is the way it works. You browse your site everyday with their toolbar installed on your browser. The toolbar then communicates with Alexa and updates the traffic/hits to your site in its database. Eventually you will see an improvement in your Alexa ranking. Anyone else visiting your site with Alexa toolbar installed in their browser also add to the hits. Frankly, I think Alexa is a bit selfish in having a policy of their toolbar having to be installed in order for them to improve our ranking. But revenue generating services like PayPerPost require a good Alexa ranking as well apart from Google PR so I finally made the decision to install their toolbar. I won't say that I encourage users to do the same. But if some of you have registered for a few services that require Alexa ranking then you must install Alexa toolbar. | New Social Networking Site
|
| January 30, 2009 |
| I came across a new social networking site called as Acobay. We can share information about not only our blogs but also any gadgets like mobile phones or your favorite movies etc. The more stuff you upload and share the more traffic you can generate. Registration is free and you don't even need to give out your email address. Its like a nothing-to-lose and something-to-gain type of a site really. |

| SERP and its meaning
|
| January 29, 2009 |
| SERP stands for search engine results page. It is a list of web pages returned by a search engine in response to a search performed using a list of keywords. The best way to improve your site's SERP rating is by using Meta tags and title tags. I would say title tags give better results for Google search engine as Google ignores Meta tags. For Yahoo and other search engines both Meta tags and Title tags work well. For SEO(Search Engine Optimization) is very important for the sucess of a website. SERP affects SEO and can be improved by building backlinks. For backlinks I recommend registering to webmasters like Linkreferral and also a few traffic exchange sites, a list of which is mentioned here. Labels: Backlinking, SERP Meaning, What is SERP |

| Effect of too many sponsored links/posts
|
|
| Google penalizes blogs that have too many sponsored posts or links. I have heard and read from many bloggers that they have lost their PR(some from PR 3 to PR 0). This ofcourse affects your site's SERP(Search engine results page). Bloggers who have registered for services like Paid to Write need to maintain a ratio of 5:1 ie they need to have five non-sponsored posts for every paid post/review that they write on their blog. Bloggers who essentially create blogs for just posting sponsored links or PTC ads will find it almost imposible to achieve a high PR. But as far as I know it doesn't affect Alexa ranking as they follow a different policy. Labels: Sponsored Link |

| A note to my Subscribers/Readers
|
| January 25, 2009 |
| First of all thank you for taking interest and subscribing to my blog! The fact that I now have 11 readers shows that people do like my blog. I try to post technical articles based purely on my experience. I am always trying to improve my blog and keep looking for new ways of doing it. It would be great if you can post your feedbacks which would help me improve my blog even further. I am looking for more ways to monetize my blog. I have tried Payperpost and they rejected my blog atleast 5 times. I don't trust any PTC sites. However, please suggest more ways of earning by posting articles(like Payperpost) or like Bidvertiser which I am currently using and await my first payment. Happy blogging and thank you for subscribing! |

| Effective way of getting your blog indexed
|
| January 17, 2009 |
There is a very effective and a simple way of getting each post in your blog indexed. You must remember that search engines have an appetite for HTML links. The more links your blog has the better the chances of it getting indexed. As you may know, not all posts receive comments and not all posts become popular in a blog. You can comment on other blogs using the URL of some of your posts if you want internal links/backlinks to your inner pages of your blog. I had mentioned in my earlier post that posting comments on other blogs with the Name/URL option gives your blog an internal link. Hence, you must encourage people to comment on your blog with their Name/URL option instead of their Google account. I know its out of our control and only people who are aware of this fact may use the Name/URL option. This is the reason why commenting with URLs is so important to indexing. Posts that have received a few comments with the Name/URL have a much better chance of getting indexed and to appear on the first page of a google search than posts that receive comments with no URL. I am stating this based on my personal experience.Labels: How to get free Backlinks |

| Internal Link - Its true meaning and significance
|
| January 14, 2009 |
Just what are internal links? Well, they are links in your own site pointing to your other pages. You know, like those links in the navigation menus or Archives? They are used for navigation among your pages. But, you should know that internal links can be good for Search Engine Optimization(SEO) as well. Think of internal links as similar to backlinks from other websites except they point to other pages in your site. Although the page rank influence from internal links is probably less compared to those of external links, I am sure that they still help in improving PR. And since these links are in your own site, you can do whatever you want with them. As far as your blog is concerned you may want to note these important points about internal links:
- Each post in your blog has a URL and each of these URLs gives you an internal link.
- Make sure your blog has an Archive of previous posts which automatically gives you an internal link.
- Each entry in any side-bars or navigation-bars will give you an internal link.
I also found out something, which is important to all bloggers, about commenting on other blogs. When you comment on other blogs with the "Name/URL" option, each comment gives you an Internal Link and not a Backlink as assumed by many. (I have checked that personally by logging into google webmaster and checking my list of internal links). The definition of Internal Link clearly states that its a link pointing to other pages of your own site or to other pages of another site in the same domain. Since all blogger blogs belong to the same domain which is blogspot, commenting doesn't help in getting backlinks which are essentially external links. Instead, commenting helps in getting only internal links apart from a way to advertise your blog indirectly. However, if a blogger(blogspot) user comments on a Wordpress blog then it would give him a backlink as the domains of blogger and Wordpress are different. Hope this information was useful.Labels: Internal Link, What are Internal Links |

| Technorati finally approved my blog
|
| January 12, 2009 |
| I had registered with Technorati two months ago but when I tried claiming my blog I used to get a message stating that my blog was "flagged". I immediately contacted their support asking as to why my blog has been flagged. I got no reply from them after sending them three emails over the last two months. In the mean time I modified my blog's template, deleted many PTC ads and a few posts, worked on improving its traffic and eventually achieved a PR of 2. I had almost given up on Technorati. However, just a couple of days ago I received an email stating that they apologize for the delay and the spiders have revisited my blog so that it can be claimed again. I wasted no time in reclaiming it and it was approved this time. Now, my next wish is that Payperpost also approve my blog. Labels: Flagged by Technorati |

| PayPerPost rejected my blog again
|
| January 4, 2009 |
I was really annoyed when PayPerPost rejected my blog for the 6th time. And this was the first time I had submitted my blog after it had attained a PR of 2. I had also deleted a few PTC ads from my blog before submitting and this time I was very confident that my blog would be approved by them due to the new PR. But even then they rejected my blog. I am very disappointed. They sent me a long email as follows:
Thank you for your blog submission! Unfortunately, at this time, your blog is not a good fit for our Marketplace. Here is some additional information regarding what we expect of the blogs in the IZEA Network. In addition to meeting our Terms of Service, we are looking specifically for blogs that are of a high quality and who exhibit the following: Good sentence structure, spelling and grammar. A clean, fresh layout. A blog that sticks to a central purpose, topic or theme. Blogs with informative and original content. Blogs that have unique content not copied from other sources. Blogs that load quickly, and do not have too many pictures, flash, widgets and obtrusive music slowing it down. Blogs in which the sponsored posts are so well written that it is hard to determine if they are sponsored or not. Blogs where the majority of content is original non-sponsored content. Blogs that have primarily content before the fold. Blogs that contain significantly more content than ads. Correctly labeled links that lead to valid sites and not 404 Messages. If your blog does not meet our standards, and does not possess many of the things listed above, your blog will most likely continue to be rejected. Please keep in mind that this rejection does not mean that your blog is bad or that you are a bad blogger, it simply means that your blog is not right for our Marketplace at this time. Should you decide to make some changes to your blog, please be sure to re-submit when your blog meets all of our requirements. In the meantime, feel free to use PPP Direct and Affiliate tools while you work on meeting the requirements of our Marketplace!
Well apart from the 2 posts that I deleted from my blog (which may cause a 404 error but I don't see if thats a major factor) nothing is wrong with my blog as far as their guidelines is concerned. If anyone from PayPerPost sees this post please give me an explanation as to why my blog was rejected. I cannot waste my time and energy by modifying my blog to satisfy your guidelines week after week. I'm ready to move on to other things. |

| Recommended Traffic Exchange Sites
|
| January 3, 2009 |
One of the first things I did after I created this blog was to register for a few traffic exchange sites. Traffic exchange sites are one of the best ways of driving traffic to your blog. This is how a traffic exchange site works. You visit a few sites that are listed randomly and in turn your site gets visited by other members of the traffic exchange site. It does you no harm if you can visit about 10-15 sites a day. Most traffic exchange sites work on 1:1 ratio meaning for each site that you visit your site gets visited once. Here are a few recommended sites that I have registered for:
- TrafficG - This site usually offers a 1:1 visitor ratio. But as you browse through sites you'll be offered a skill set and if you complete that skill set your ratio improves.
- Trafficswarm - This site helps you not only promote your site but also you can promote banner ads. You can split the credits earned between your blog and your banner ads.
- Blogclicker - This is a traffic exchange site for only blogs. You visit others' blogs and they visit yours on a 1:1 ratio. Additionally you can comment on blogs that you visit so that you can get backlinks.
- CommentingforLinks - This site is unique and is most recommended by me if you want a lot of backlinks. This is how it works. After registration you are provided with an HTML/ASP code which can be customized and which you need to place on your site. The code is for a comment box where visitors can comment on your site. The best part is each comment earns you a backlink. And the more you comment the more backlinks you earn. You can spot a blue comment box on my site at the right hand side. That is where people comment to get a backlink. And any new user who comments on your site automatically promotes your site on his site and so do his downline members!
- Linkreferral - This is also a unique and highly recommended site. After registration you need to visit sites and review them. But that is optional as without doing nothing after just logging in your site will be visited at atleast 10 times a day if you have good content. Already my blog is listed under "Featured Sites" without me doing anything!
- Blogcatalog - This site is similar to mylot with the exception that you don't get paid for posting discussions. But each post brings you a backlink as your blog's feeds are indexed by blogcatalog.
