Speed up the read speed of SD card

Requirement:

A rooted Android mobile.

A Root Explorer like ES Explorer.

There is a way to speed up the SD card on your android. With this change the contents on SD card can be accessed faster. This includes accessing the Gallery, any app installed on SD card, File Explorer etc. Also there is a slight increase during file transfer to PC on the USB mode. Follow the steps below to accomplish this:

Open the Root explorer on your mobile.

Browse to this location: /sys/devices/virtual/bdi/179:0

Open the file read_ahead_kb and change the existing value (probably 128) to 1024 or 2048 or 3072 and save the file.. Try one of these values to see which suits your mobile. A value of 2048 is recommended. In any case upon saving the file there will be a marked increased in speed. Test it by opening the Gallery and see the difference.

Note: Upon rebooting the mobile the changes are lost.

Recommended Android Apps…continued

To continue my list of must have android apps:

Wifi File Transfer:

With this app you wont be needing a USB data cable to transfer data from/to PC! After connecting to a wifi network this app generates an IP address for your mobile along with a port number. All you need to do is enter this IP address into the address bar of your PC’s browser and you will be able to view/modify/copy/paste the contents of your phone/SD card.

Note: Do not use this app when connected to an unsecured network.

Quickpic:

With this app you can hide any file/folder from phone’s gallery and file explorer. To view the folder you need to enable hidden mode from within this app. Among many apps I felt this app was the most suitable one for hiding folders.

Office Talk Free:

Use this app to connect to your corporate messenger at work. All you need is to your work’s domain, username, password and server URL. You will able to login to work messenger.
