I mostly listen to metal bands of the 80′s. Slayer and Metallica are my joint favorites. Other bands include Sepultura, Testament, Exodus, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Pantera, Anthrax, Overkill, Six Feet Under, Kreator and Static X. (I dislike Iron Maiden)
Metallica: After the “Black Album” in 1991 Metallica had failed to produce an old school metal album until 2008 when they released Death Magnetic. According to me they should stick to the old school type of music not only to continue the legacy of the 80′s Metal but also to maintain their fan base. Death Magnetic hopefully is a re-birth of the old Metallica. (Will talk more about albums under Albums section)
Slayer: Slayer continue to produce album after album and haven’t lost much of their aggression of the 80′s even though the band has made changes to their team. Their 1986 masterpiece “Reign in Blood” is perhaps the greatest thrash metal album ever. I am sure there are going to be a lot more albums to come as the band has managed to stick to their old school ways as compared to other bands which have changed their style(and suffered) according to the changing times.
Testament: Another great thrash metal band of the 80′s Testament didn’t quite match the agression and popularity of Slayer and Metallica but they were their biggest challengers for a few years until they faded out and spilt up. Only a couple of years ago the original members of the band re-grouped to release their latest album “The Formation of Damnation” and announce the return of the old Testament.
Megadeth: Along with Slayer and Metallica, Megadeth was the third metal band I started with. Megadeth is considered as one of the leadin thrash metal bands of the 80′s. Some of my favorite Megadeth albums include “Youthanasia”, “Rust in Peace” and “Countdown to Extinction”. In my opinion Megadeth significantly improved after their 1990 album “Rust in Peace”.
